Re: IB Evaluation Visit 26-28 November 2025
As you are aware, the academy recently underwent a three-day review as part of the five-year evaluation of our status as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. This evaluation covered both of our IB programmes—the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP).
The review is a rigorous process in which three IB evaluators assess how well the academy adheres to an international criteria, featuring the following aspects: philosophy, culture, environment, learning standards and approaches to learning alongside a whole-school development project required by the IB. It is with great pleasure that I share the news that the academy excelled in every aspect of this evaluation. The review team expressed how genuinely impressed they were by the exceptional, innovative and world class education we deliver to our community.
While the formal report will be shared with the leadership team in 4–6 weeks, I felt it important not to wait to share this wonderful news with you. This success is a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment of our staff, who fully deserve the praise that the forthcoming report will no doubt contain.
The lead evaluator described the academy’s journey as “transformational.” Throughout the visit, the team experienced first-hand the high-quality learning taking place in lessons, the positive culture that permeates the school, and the nurturing environment we are proud to uphold. They interviewed staff, students, and parents, and it was humbling to hear that they felt they had discovered “the heartbeat” of our school and witnessed how we genuinely change lives for the better.
In every facet of the evaluation, the team saw excellence. It is both reassuring and deeply validating that Leigh Academy Wilmington has shone so brightly through such a demanding process, receiving the highest of commendations.
This achievement provides a wonderful end to the year and an exceptional platform as we move forward into 2026.
