We are immensely proud to announce our 2025/26 Key Stage 4 outcomes, which reflect the dedication, perseverance, and drive of our Year 11 cohort, alongside the steadfast devotion of our staff and the active support of our school community.
Rooted in our commitment as an IB World School offering a broad and challenging curriculum, these achievements uphold our ongoing standard of academic success. This reinforces Leigh Academy Wilmington’s standing as a leading non-selective school locally and across the nation.
Headline Achievements
The Attainment 8 score for this year’s cohort stands at 44.9, maintaining a clear and sustained track record of exceptional outcomes over the past three years. Disadvantaged and SEN students have significantly outperformed previous national averages, demonstrating that our inclusion, teaching, and learning strategies are effectively supporting those who need it most.
We have achieved the highest number of grade 9s in the history of the academy—the highest accolade a student can achieve at Key Stage 4.
Key statistics include:
- 62% of total grades were a 4 and above.
- 42% of total grades were a 5 and above.
- 11% of total grades were a 7 and above.
Students with English as an additional language eclipsed previous results with an Attainment 8 score of 56.9. Furthermore, 85% of our students were entered for the full Ebacc suite of qualifications, meeting government recommendations and surpassing other non-selective schools.
English and Mathematics
We are delighted to celebrate another outstanding year for English and mathematics:
- mathematics: 66% 4–9, 43% 5–9, 11% 7–9
- English language: 78% 4–9, 53% 5–9, 14% 7–9
- English literature: 77% 4–9, 60% 5–9, 17% 7–9
Six students in every ten secured a grade 4+ in both English and mathematics with four students in every ten securing a grade 5+ in both English and mathematics, an incredible achievement that opens doors for future success.
These achievements are the result of a shared vision: students who strive for success, teachers who inspire and challenge, and first-class pastoral, SEN, admin, and site teams who provide unwavering support.
As we celebrate these results, we remain committed to reaching even greater heights. Our ambition is to ensure Leigh Academy Wilmington students continue to be among the highest achievers nationally, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values to thrive in an ever-changing world—no matter their starting point. Together, we have cemented Leigh Academy Wilmington’s reputation as a beacon of academic excellence, innovation, and opportunity.

Individual Students Overcoming Adversity Case Studies
Student 1
This student should be incredibly proud of their GCSE results and the achievements they have made. Despite facing a number of challenges and changes along the way, they have shown remarkable resilience, determination, and perseverance. Their results are a testament to the effort they have put in and the progress they have made; they should take great confidence from what they have achieved.
Student 2
Having joined the academy mid-key stage after attending two previous secondary schools, this student has overcome significant challenges to achieve some very pleasing results, most notably in English and mathematics, enabling them to obtain an apprenticeship. In addition, their attendance has improved significantly from their previous school (rising from 47%) despite managing a number of medical issues and an EHCP. We are exceptionally proud of how this student engaged with our support systems and, by doing so, has secured a very bright future.
Student 3
This student has been an asset to the academy and deserves immense credit for their achievements this year. Despite facing challenges in their personal life, they have responded admirably and demonstrated a range of attributes we value highly. They achieved at least a ‘good pass’ in all subjects taken, including a Grade 7 in English literature and Grade 6s in English language and history. In addition to these academic outcomes, their contributions as a Student Leader clearly evidence that their peers respect them as a positive role model.
